Buy / Trade FAQ

For nearly 20 years Second Ascent has been buying and selling used equipment and apparel. This tradition continues at our retail location in Ballard. If you'd like to sell us some of your used gear, please review the following FAQ.

How does the process work?
You bring us a pile of gear, we'll review it and make you an offer right then and there.

How do I get paid?
If you accept our offer, you'll be issued a trade card with your store credit on it. Your credit never expires and can be used in store or to place special orders. Sorry, we do not offer cash under any circumstances. Trade credits can only be applied to pre-tax subtotals.

What do you need from me?
We'll ask for a photo ID (DL, passport), and a phone number. We use the ID to make sure we know who we're dealing with and the phone number to track your credit in our computer.

What, specifically, are you buying?
We buy clean, seasonally appropriate, gear and apparel from reputable manufacturers for any of the sports we sell. This includes:

  • Bikes
  • Backpacks
  • Clothing
  • Backcountry Ski gear
  • XC Ski gear
  • Camping equipment
  • Footwear
  • and More!

Is there anything you don't buy?

We never buy:
  • Load-bearing climbing gear of any kind, ever. Not even if it's new in the packaging.
  • Used hydration bladders
  • Used water filters
  • Snowboard gear
  • Alpine ski gear (for the resort). Though we do buy alpine touring and telemark equipment.
  • Paddlesports/Sailing gear

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to call the store directly!
